Home insulation in Pueblo West CO - a warmer house, with the gaps sealed first
Hot upstairs in summer, cold floors in winter, a power bill that keeps climbing? We seal the gaps first, then insulate where it counts.

What does insulating a house in Pueblo West involve?
Home insulation in Pueblo West means adding insulation to the attic, the floors over a crawl space and the basement rim joist, the framing that sits on the foundation, and sealing the air leaks around them so your house costs less to heat and cool.
Most calls start with a drafty room, cold floors, a room over the garage that's never comfortable or a power bill that won't come down. The fix usually starts with sealing the gaps in the attic before adding to what's there, and the price moves with how much of the house we cover, how many inches are up there now, whether anything has to come out first and which type goes in. The schedule mostly turns on access and on anything I find that needs fixing before it's covered, and your estimate covers your house, with what I'd do and in what order. Pueblo County's contractor rules say anyone hired for construction work has to be licensed or registered, and we're licensed and fully insured.
What happens after you call about insulating your house?
Call or send the form
We get back to you to set a time for me to come look. It helps to have a few notes ready on how old the house is, what insulation you have now, whether your ceilings have can lights and what burns fuel in the house, like a furnace, stove or fireplace.
I look at what's there
I go up in the attic or down in the crawl space, measure the inches already there and check the wiring, vents and wood before anything else. You get a written plan of what I'd do and in what order, so you can see the whole job before you spend anything.
Our installers do the work
If you go ahead, our installers do the job and I'm on site for most of it. If foam is in the plan, I'll tell you the re-entry time, how long before you, the kids and the pets can come back inside, before we start.
We walk it together
When we're done, I walk the job with you so you can see the sealed gaps, the clear vents and the even depth out to the edges. That way you see what you paid for, not just a bill.
How we do home insulation, and the work around it
I start by checking what's up there before anything gets covered, because insulation is good at hiding old wiring, a bad flue, wet wood and droppings, and fresh material laid over a soaked or dirty layer just keeps the problem. Next comes air sealing, closing the gaps around pipes, wires, the attic hatch and can lights so the new insulation isn't fighting a draft, and any light that isn't rated to touch insulation gets a shield first. We keep the eave vents, the openings under the roof edge, clear so the attic can still breathe, because a buried vent shows up later as damp framing. Then we fill. Most homes do fine with batts, the pre-cut blankets, where the framing is open and blown-in loose fill, sent through a hose, where it isn't, so if you'd rather keep your walls and finishes as they are, loose fill is usually where we start. Either way it goes in even all the way to the edges, not deep in the middle and thin at the eaves, which is how a lot of attics end up.
Some houses need work on either side of that. If the old layer is wet or full of droppings, insulation removal comes first so the new material starts on clean framing. When the complaint is cold floors rather than a hot upstairs, I'll usually look underneath too, since crawl space insulation and sealing the rim joist are often what fixes them.

Home insulation questions from Pueblo West
How much does it cost to insulate a house in Pueblo West?
I give you a price after I've been up in the attic, because two houses the same size can need very different work. A house with a few inches left and open gaps at the hatch and lights costs much less than one where a wet or dirty layer has to come out first, or where wiring or venting needs fixing before anything gets covered.
Is spray foam worth it, or is blown-in insulation enough?
For most houses, sealing the gaps and topping up with blown-in is enough, and it costs less than foam. Foam costs more because it seals air while it insulates, and it earns that price when your ductwork runs through the attic, since the ducts end up inside the sealed space.
How much can insulation lower my heating and cooling bills?
On average, insulation and air sealing done together can save up to 15% on heating and cooling costs, or up to 11% on total energy costs, by national figures. Those numbers count both parts of the job and they're averages, not a promise for your house, which is why I plan the sealing and the insulation as one job.
What is the best order for air sealing and insulating a house?
Seal first, then insulate, because money spent on insulation can be wasted when the gaps in ceilings, walls and the foundation are left open. Federal air-sealing guidance also says to work out how much fresh air the house needs before sealing, so the stove, oven, furnace and fireplace still vent properly, and that's part of what I check on my visit.
How do I tell if my attic has vermiculite insulation?
Vermiculite looks like small pebbles poured between the joists, usually gray-brown or silver-gold, and if you think you have it, mention it when you call. The EPA says a trained and accredited asbestos abatement contractor, a firm trained to remove asbestos, should take it out, and that firm should be a different company from the one that assessed it. If I find it, I'll tell you before we plan anything else.
Do I need a permit to insulate my house in Pueblo West?
If your job needs a permit, we pull it ourselves, because the county issues building permits only to the contractor doing the work under your contract. The county's residential code covers its unincorporated areas, and offices differ between the cities and the county areas, so I check which one covers your address first. If you'd like to ask yourself, the Pueblo County Building Division takes permit questions at 719-583-6100.
Other work that often goes with it
Insulation removal
When the old layer is soaked, packed with droppings or smells off, clearing it out lets the new insulation do its job instead of covering a mess.
Crawl space insulation
A crawl space with bare walls and an open rim joist lets cold air sit right under your floors, and insulating it is often the fix for chilly rooms.
